The Spring Valley Boat Club began in 1937 when friends used a repurposed building to create a clubhouse, later incorporating as a non-profit in 1943. After its original clubhouse was destroyed by ice in 1947, members built a new permanent structure and expanded facilities over the years, becoming the only sheltered harbor on the Illinois River between Ottawa and Henry with limited membership.
